This qualification applies to the Business Services Sector with emphasis made to reflect real work
situations in order to develop skills in the ‘employability skills’ of this qualification. This qualification reflects the role to individuals in a variety of Business Services job roles. These individuals may have frontline management accountabilities. Individuals in these roles carry out moderately complex tasks in a specialist field of expertise that requires business operations skills. They may possess substantial experience in a range of settings, however seek to further develop their skills across a wide range of business functions.

A Diploma of Business (Operations) will develop your management skills and prepare you to become
a valued business professional. The program is delivered entirely ‘off the job’ and participants must
attend regularly to the class. You will learn practical skills around Advertising, Human Resource
Management, Marketing and Information Management to take your business skills to the next level.

This course will give you the skills and knowledge to pursue a huge variety of employment options by
providing you with a broad and holistic understanding of the business foundations.

RPL

  • If you consider yourself to already have the knowledge and skills for the qualification, any person currently working in the industry has the opportunity to apply for the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment-only pathway.
  • You will be required to successfully demonstrate that you have acquired the required knowledge and skills specified in the training package through formal, non-formal and informal learning.   • This qualification supports individuals with little or no vocational experience but who possess sound theoretical business skills and knowledge that they would like to develop in order to create further educational and employment  opportunities
  • This qualification is suitable for individuals with substantial experience in a range of settings who are seeking to further develop their skills across a wide range of business functions
  • Potential Learners will be individuals of all backgrounds, non-specific gender and all age groups including individuals with a minimum Year 12 or equivalent, plus basic computer skills and knowledge of internet use
  • DP has multiple campuses across Queensland and strong industry links therefore students may also likely be jobseekers and ‘return to work’ participants who are in the position to commit to study and vocational placement hours in a quest to secure employment
  • All students will be screened for course eligibility including LLN testing. Students from diverse backgrounds whom may be identified as potentially experiencing LLN difficulties will be supported throughout their journey and/or referred to specialist LLN programs to upskill.

The target learners and entry requirements for this course must:

  • be over 15 years of age, whom have finished or left secondary school
  • undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Skills Indicator assessment questionnaire
  • have technological skills to undertake computer/online work and have access to a computer and software with the following minimum specifications

  • Proof of ID: Colour copy of Passport or Driver’s Licence. 

Student Eligibility Requirements

No formal pre-requisites apply for entry into the mainstream program (however it is recommended that you have:-

  • Completed a Certificate IV in Business, or another relevant qualification and/or that you have experience in a range of work environment in the business industry;
  • Intermediate (Year 12 equivalent) literacy skills as study will involve a range of reading comprehension activities, report writing and conducting and analysing research. Written communication needs to be of professional standard in presentation, structure, grammar, spelling and punctuation;
  • basic computer skills that enable the individual to access resources online, send and receive emails and use a range of MS Office programs; and
  • a range of study skills, self-motivation and reasonable independence to direct your study.
  • Entry in the accelerated program is via an application process and it is recommended that individuals have at least 5 years’ experience working in the areas of business or management and have an understanding of issues relevant to medium to large organisations.
  • Entry pathway:

    • There are no prerequisite requirements for individual units of competency.
    • It is a natural progression from the BSB40320 Certificate IV in Entrepreneurship and New Business.

    Preferred pathway for candidates considering this qualification include:

    • Successful completion of BSB60120 Advanced Diploma of Business or another relevant qualification/s  OR
    • Providing evidence of competency in the majority of units required for the BSB60120 Advanced Diploma of Business or another relevant qualification/s  OR
    • With reasonable 3 – 4 years vocational work in a range of work environments, acting in a range to senior support or technical roles for Advanced Diploma of Business.

    Educational pathway:

    • Students can continue to develop their skills and knowledge after successfully completing this qualification by undertaking the BSB60120 Advanced Diploma of Business which further develops an individual who had demonstrated significant experience in a senior management role, and who is seeking to develop expertise across a wide range of business functions.

    Industry pathway:

    • The Diploma of Business will provide an individual to take their business skills to the next level.  This can include establishing a career in the business world or articulating the qualification towards a university degree.  The Diploma of Business will provide individuals with a broad and holistic understanding of the business foundations. The diverse variety of study areas including Marketing and Human Resources etc.,  will give individuals the skills and knowledge to purse a huge variety of employment options.

    Assessment only pathway: (RPL)

    • Existing workers may apply for assessment only pathways. To be eligible for this mode of delivery students must have demonstrated pre-existing knowledge, skills, experience and competency within the sector sufficient to meet the training package requirements. If a student believes they are eligible for this pathway, an RPL self-assessment must be completed and a training needs analysis of their pre-existing knowledge and skills determined. An individual assessment strategy and plan will be developed after the initial RPL application and analysis has been completed in consultation with a qualified Trainer and Assessor.

    Learning pathway

    • This qualification has been designed to include real world projects and simulated workplace case studies, portfolios of authentic work samples and presentations that support students to further develop their skills across a wide range of business functions and to create further educational and employment opportunities including articulating the qualification towards a university degree.   ** It is a natural progression from the BSB40320 Certificate IV in Entrepreneurship and New Business.**
    • Course Fee – $4250
    • RPL assessment – total assessment fee $1500, then if applicable , $100 per unit of gap training capped at 10 units

    A $250 deposit is required prior to commencing training and assessment, with weekly, fortnightly and monthly payment plans to pay the remaining fees.

    To receive an award for this qualification, students are required to complete all units listed above as competent within a period of 12 months.

    Students will be provided with all the Student training and assessment materials for each unit of competency required to complete the course.

    All students have 12 months course duration to complete all requisite theory and practical components of this program.

    • The expected duration of training will be  12 months of virtual training, home study + online learning and practical demonstrations in both a simulated setting and onsite at approved facilities to include the following:
      • Consulting with others to develop a range of operational plans
      • Managing and developing others to be effective and empowered team members
      • Managing and providing feedback on individual and team performance
      • Developing and managing risk management and contingency plans
      • Coaching and mentoring others to acquire new knowledge and skills
    • Detailed delivery schedules are available for each learner group. This includes a comprehensive break-down of the training schedule. The Timetable and/or course duration schedule will outline the delivery of theory components, practical assessment and work placement expectations.
    • Students will be required to complete all requisite projects and assessment items of each unit of competency/cluster to be deemed satisfactory and a judgement of competency entered.
  • DP offers a robust student support system to ensure Learners will be able to successfully complete all requirements of the training package
  • A minimum requirement for eligibility into this program is the demonstrated capability to understand, perform and complete tasks at an AQF Level 5 indicator
  • All students will be screened for course eligibility including LLN testing. Students from diverse backgrounds whom may be identified as potentially experiencing LLN difficulties will be supported throughout their journey and/or referred to specialist LLN programs to upskill.
  • Participants will be assigned a dedicated Trainer + Assessor at the commencement of the course who will be their primary point of contact for all learning and student support needs
  • A Training Manager is available to support students through the development of individual learning and academic intervention plans where appropriate including reviewing timelines for the submission of assessment tasks to ensure the successful completion of all requisite tasks
